Some digital work I did long ago. Can't make up my mind it I like digital painting more than photo manipulation. This is manipulation with a bit of hand produced textures.

Elements 2

This is second painting in the Elements series and probably the best thing I've done

Thursday, 25 July 2013

This is the first painting in the Elements series.  Not a very good photo of it, particularly the colour.  It was painted almost straight after the Autumn painting. Its still not right but I did use it for my banner.

Found this artist a few years ago and have been following his blog since.

If only I had done this

This is a portrait of Sophie Grey the sister-in-law of Sir John Everett Millais.  There is something about this portrait that suggests a closer relationship between the sitter and the artist. The confidence and almost confrontational manner shown by Sophie would not have been acceptable in Victorian Society.  I have always been a massive fan of the Pre-Raphaelites since a very young age and Millais is one of the best if not the best.  However I knew nothing of this portrait until I went to a recent exhibitio at the Royal Academy.  The painting is only 30cm high by 23cm wide yet it grabbed my attention from across a busy gallery. It is a jewel of a picture and it instantly became one of my favourite portraits.
I would love to be this talented hence “if only I had done this”.

Time - FoxFires

Found this on deviant art its called Time and is part of a series by Aimee Stewart who calls herself FoxFires.  She does lots of digital manipulations, or as she calls herself a "digital funambulist".  I really like the way she layers up her images, combining the nature with human forms - its what I'm trying to develop! Whilst they are all photographic images they have quality that makes they look like pencil drawings.
There five pieces in the series and here they are:
I love her quote"We do this art thing or we burst into flames..."

First Blog!

This is the first painting in a Seasons series - Autumn. The idea was to combine various elements together in one painting. Hares have always fascinated me - they have a certain magical wildness to them which seems a little outside the normal. The thing I really like about this painting is that it started me painting again. The realism of the work is reasonably good but it still needs refining but unfortunately it has become an issue with all my work. I am not trying to create a photo realistic painting but simply to utilize some of the techniques to create a believable painting that is clearly not.
